Remember when we were young.....

nope not about to recite more floyd at you but i was thinking about this whole 'Critical Threat Alert' terror status. The IRA used to blow things up for fun and our bobbies used to arrest Irish people all the time, some of whom were actually terrorists, and we never had a 'Critical Threat' warning. It smacks of scaremongering. Dont get me wrong i believe the threat is real i just disagree with the hype that is used to convey the message. In the good old days of being blown up, the government rarely mentioned it, it was as if to speak of terrorism was to empower the terrorist, and surely that is whats happening.

Exactly what I've been saying for ages Keef! Did we learn nothing from the troubles? All terrorists should be starved of media attention, Maggie (bless her ice cold blackened heart) knew full well that they flourish on publicity. As for this threat level nonsense, I've never heard anything so preposterous. Plus as you point out it's a very useful scaremongering tool for Labour when they want to introduce repressive legislation...
