MadTV: The journal

General thoughts and messages
10/01/2005
I haven't blogged in a while so I thought I'd do a general post. First: Happy New Year to you all, I hope you're all dieting like mad; I know I'm not. I’d also like to say thank you to everyone who comes here and reads our blogs, it's been a very successful year for MadTV. We began the year as a small flash site with just a trickle of traffic and we've ended the year as a dynamic XHTML and CSS site with much higher volumes of traffic. I have a graphic (which I'll post at some point) which shows the huge growth in traffic we've enjoyed.
Recent developments here include two RSS news feeds for both blogs, you'll see buttons for the feeds at the bottom of the respective pages. Also a new page to aid people who read "Gone Away" has been added: the archive page.
A site map is coming soon and I've been meaning to work on a style switcher for the site; we'll see how much time I can devote to it.
Finally we've come under attack from a small minded spammer, fortunately his efforts are laughable but please be aware that you may for a while see offensive comments in my blog. Don't worry, they get removed very quickly and we are working on some anti-spammer ideas.

Gone Away
Yeah, Happy New Number, Mad. And thanks for doing such a great job on my blog.

Block his ip at the router. Oh what? you can't do that? I bet slartipoop could work it out for you. *opens SSH session to firewall to check if benji is still up to no good* Hey Mad, I dunno if you have seen this site yet, but this guy is very cool -- he demystifies one of the least sexy parts of CSS -- and he does it with style. *begins to bob and weave, as the rotten tomato born that could get him has not been born* Check it out, eh? http://css.maxdesign.com.au/listamatic/index.htm

Now that's a great link Hill, I hadn't seen this before. Its very handy to have all that info in one place... and what do you mean "least sexy"? Unordered lists are the sexiest thing in CSS, they make me feel all flustered. As for IP banning? I can't block it at the router as I don't host myself but us .NET wallahs use Global.asax for stuff like that. Thing is though, banning IP's is a losing battle, there are so anonymous proxies out there. Instead I've found another way...

I fixed the feed problem -- of course, it was a coding error on my part. It is the oddest thing, lately -- I make errors in logic much more often than I do in syntax, so it takes me a coupla looks to see wtf I did wrong. Anyhoo - Mad - I am a few nights (I think) from putting up my forum - I think it'll be a great place to discuss CSS and stuff like that -- but you know how forums are - so often disused. not that I am begging for a post or two, but I sure would enjoy it if you did (hint hint) ;;-). I will let you know when they are fully ready to go.

I think that's a good sign if syntax errors are disappearing, probably means you're a "gooroo" now. :> As for the forums? You know I'll be checkin' 'em out. And there's bound to be something I can stick my oar in.
